Jonathan Dee

9781571747563Though perhaps less well-known here than its Western counterpart, Chinese astrology is every bit as illuminating and provides an equally valuable shortcut to self-knowledge. Jonathan Dee, the well-respected author of several books on astrology, tarot, and fortune-telling, reveals all the mysteries of the art in this informative volume.

Filled with legends, charts, and history, it contains all of the essentials for working out your Chinese horoscope including the animal signs for each birthday year, month, and hour. Each sign receives a richly detailed and enlightening explanation.

Among the amusing and informative tidbits here:

  • The rat is considered to be the sign of charm and is noted for its shrewdness, enterprise, and wealth. Rats are also prosperous, entrepreneurial, obsessive, anxious, bossy, and mean.
  • The ox is the sign of tenacity and prosperity and a symbol of fertility and muscular strength. People born under the ox are patient, contemplative, eloquent, chauvinistic, petty, and grumpy.
  • The monkey is lively, complex, charming, diplomatic, and agile. Monkeys are also dishonest, sarcastic, lacking respect, and restless.

Chinese Astrology, Plain and Simple is an accessible introduction that enlightens, entertains, and informs.

The Little Book of Letting Go

Hugh Prather

“A treasure trove of practical, spiritual wisdom” —Joan Borysenko

“This little book can change your life.” —Neale Donald Walsch

“Learning to let go is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself and share with others. When you let go, you won’t be sweating the small stuff—or even the big stuff.” —Richard Carlson

9781573246927“Letting go is the bottom-line key to happiness,” states Hugh Prather. And in The Little Book of Letting Go, he offers a simple 3-step process for shedding prejudices, preconceptions, and pre-judgments and facing each moment with openness and enthusiasm. Prather first explains why it is essential to learn to let go and then outlines a 30-day plan for spiritual renewal. Finally, he offers specific techniques for getting a grip on habitual reactions, the need to control, and the addiction to conflict.

In this little book on mental cleansing, Prather uses personal stories as well as step-by-step exercises to help readers understand the rewards and the process of letting go. For example, in the section on letting go of guilt and hurtful actions, Prather suggests that for at least one day readers “rise from sleep and make your purpose only this: ‘I will go through this day harmlessly. I will hurt no one in my thoughts or in my actions, including myself.'” Prather also includes instructions on how to let go of mental pollutants, misery, prediction and control, and spiritual specialness.

Learning to Let Go

Do you feel like you’re juggling a bit much lately? Afraid you’ll burn out? Don’t let your spirit and psychic health take a backseat to board meetings and bargain shopping. Check out Lorraine Roe’s Psychic Laundry List of activities and crafts to try in order to let yourself let go, sit back, and allow the Universe to do some of the work for once.

“This lesson is about letting the universe do for you! You deserve it. Physical tools can really assist you in growing spiritually and opening up psychically. Try at least half of the following suggestions. See what results you get by letting go and letting the universal energies take on some of your concerns. This is like hiring a nanny to take care of your problems.

  1. Get a cardboard toilet paper roll and paint or color a design on the outside. Mine has black and white paint, representing yin and yang or positive and negative force in the universe. Put some sea salt in the roll and seal the ends with plastic wrap and a rubber band. This is your transformer. Whenever something is really bugging you, mentally send it through the roll. I’ve had some real miracles come from doing this.
  2. Go to a crystal/stone store and let a crystal choose you. It will if you’re ready. When you bring your crystal home, it is important to clear its energy. Place the crystal in a bowl outside, cover it with spring water, throw in some sea salt, and let it sit in the sunshine for at least ten minutes. Set it somewhere special in your house. Light a candle and put it in front of the stone and say a prayer of surrender.
  3. Get or make a God or Goddess box. That’s where you write what’s on your mind or what you’re attached to on paper and put it in the box. Then you release it.
  4. Write someone’s name or the name of a situation that you are feeling upset about. Then burn it. That releases your connection to it.
  5. Buy some old plates at a garage sale or secondhand store. Write down topics on them with permanent marker and smash them with a hammer. This is my favorite–a big energy release!!
  6. Find a stick, go outside, and draw a circle around you with the stick. As you do this, repeat the circle prayer: Circle of Light / Burning Bright / Let it Be / Blessed Be.
  7. Head to a new age or church bookstore and see what icons are calling your name. Does Mary appeal? How about Buddha or Jesus? Perhaps a fairy? Or maybe you have something at home, such as a child’s toy, a ceramic dog or snake, or something cute and cuddly. All can represent the energy you want to bring in your life.
  8. Take a bath and soak up some essential oils or take a sea salt bath to clear your energies. Sometimes when you’re at your kids’ school, work, or the store, you pick up unwanted energies. The bath can wash your troubles away.
  9. Sign up to become Reiki certified.
  10. Practice with a pendulum. See where it takes you and if you get accurate and helpful information. Round and round it goes, where it lands, nobody knows.

These techniques may seem goofy but they really work. They allow your ego to let go and the universe and your higher self to step in to help.”
