As we move into the New Year, we often reflect on the events of the past. As we reflect on this year, personally and collectively, we can see both beauty and pain.
Forgiving ourselves and others for things that have happened in the past is key to creating a new year filled with more joy.
How can we find forgiveness in our hearts for those who have harmed us?
In the chapter on Forgiveness Sheila writes,
“Opening to love inevitably brings us to a very powerful understanding of forgiveness. When we truly reach the place of surrendering into Divine love, we begin to understand that everything that has ever occurred has been perfect. We are not victims. No one has ever wronged us. This is hard for us to take in. True forgiveness is not accepting that someone has wronged us and deciding to forget it and move on. True forgiveness is coming to the understanding that everything you have ever faced in life has been a gift of love to bring you closer to your remembrance of One-ness with the Creator. Yes, even the most painful lessons are gifts of love.” (extended excerpt)
As you embrace this new year, you have a choice, and your choice is always the same.
Do you choose to live in a place of Love or Fear?
Take a moment to reflect back on all the wonderful things that happened to you in 2012.
Make a list of all the things that you love about your life in this moment.
Then reflect back on the difficulties you have faced in the past. Allow yourself to feel gratitude that these events have led you to the space you are right now.
If it is difficult to see the beauty in life in this moment, push yourself to find three simple things that you can be grateful for.
Then make your new year’s resolution to do something each day that will support you in finding joy.
Suggestions: Read positive books, listen to enlightened talk radio, play music that you love, reach out to a friends for help.
Tell us: what are you grateful for today? How will you create more joy in 2013?
