ADHD

Gearing up for back-to-school already? Do you know how many children are diagnosed with ADHD?

According to the Centers of Disease Control:

  • Number of children 3-17 years of age ever diagnosed with ADHD:  5.2 million
  • Percent of children 3-17 years of age ever diagnosed with ADHD:  8.4%
  • Percent of boys 3-17 years of age ever diagnosed with ADHD: 11.2%
  • Percent of girls 3-17 years of age ever diagnosed with ADHD 5.5%

Martha Burge addresses the alarming number of diagnoses of ADHD in America in her new book The ADD Myth and makes the argument that “drugging ourselves into being ‘normal’ robs us of the gifts that allow us to be spectacular.” She goes on to describe what she lists as 5 intensity types: sensual, psychomotor (aka hyperactivity), intellectual, creative, and emotional. Check out The ADD Myth, do you agree with her take on Attention Deficit Disorder?
